About the Author
A Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh is an internationally known author, poet, scholar, and peace activist, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King Jr. He is the author of numerous books, including the best-selling Living Buddha, Living Christ; Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames; Peace Is Every Step; and The Miracle of Mindfulness. The heart of Buddhist practice is to generate our own presence in such a way that we can touch deeply the life that is here and available in every moment. We have to be here for ourselves, we have to be here for the people we love, we have to be here for life with all its wonders. The message of our Buddhist practice is simple and clear: “I am here for you.”
In our daily life, we are often lost in thoughts. We get lost in regrets about the past and fears about the future. We get lost in our plans, our anger, and our anxiety. At such moments, we cannot really be here for ourselves. We are not really here for life.
Practice makes it possible for us to be free—to rid ourselves of these obstacles and establish ourselves firmly in the present moment. Practice gives us methods we can use to help us be here in the present moment. Practice makes it possible for us to say “I am here for you.”
The Buddha said, “The past no longer exists, and the future is not here yet.” There is only a single moment in which we can truly be alive, and that is the present moment. Being present in the here and now is our practice.

The best book I've ever read!

Up until now I have read and tried many self improvement books. I am an spiritual follower of Jesus however I have been always open to learn and improve myself. Everything I read before told me "what to do or what to be" but never "how to do it". This book has now put me in the path of "how to" achieve peace and happiness. It's insights are surreal and now I have a simple yet powerful tool to achieve self-control, happiness, awareness and most of all "to start living life for the first time in 47 years!". Thank you teacher.

sweet, simple, and clear

Thich Nhat Hanh was the first meditation teacher I ever read. I went on to explore the literature widely. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I'd sort of dismissed him as too simplistic- kind of a Mr. Rogers for adults. In his writing there are no abstractions, none of the ambitious theorizing about "enlightenment." He sticks with very simple basics teachings of moment to moment awareness of the breath as a key to human happiness. In our very uncertain times he advises that we take our anger and fear and treat them with great care and tenderness so that we can relate to others with kindness and compassion. He is indeed a Mr. Rogers for adults, exactly the guy we unhappy adults need.

Love Thich Nhat Hanh, have read several of his books, but still haven't read anything that compares to Peace Is Every Step. Which I would give ten stars out of five, so READ THAT ONE FOLKS!
