About the Author
Dr. Miguel Alvarez has worked with children and families of divorce for the past 14 years. Dr. Alvarez performs child custody evaluations, mediation, child counseling services and adult counseling services for both English speaking and Spanish speaking families. He is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego and attorneys frequently refer their clients to him so that he can prepare them for Family Court Services, child custody evaluation and child custody mediation. “My goal is to prepare you for Family Court Services, Mediation, and Custody Evaluations by helping you to focus on what matters and be the best parent that you can be.” Dr. Lori Love has been specializing in working with children and families of divorce for more than 18 years. She routinely performs child custody evaluations, child custody mediation, and special master assignments. She is on the advisory board of Kid’s Turn and is involved in pioneering the Parent Coordination Program in San Diego County, California. She is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego. In addition, Dr. Love is well known for her presentations that combine humor and high energy with education. “My hope is that you are enlightened by our handbook and able to put your best foot forward for the betterment of your family.”

Excellent preparation book!

This book is by far the best I have found for preparation for a custody evaluation. The advice was more detailed than I was able to get in lengthy conversations with my lawyers. I found this book after my custody evaluation, but have recommended it to several people who are going through similar experiences. The advice was consistent w/ my experience in going through the evaluation process. Well worth the cost for this relatively thin book. Every page is packed w/ important information. I have also since purchased a second copy to send to my lawyers so they can recommend it to future clients.

Waste of my money

Considering I am pinching every penny, spending $30 on a book was a big decision for me. There was nothing in this book that I could not have and did not find online. This is more of a workbook. Most of the information was common sense. It is all quite vague. Most of the 50 pages are simply areas for you to write in your answers to questions. Although this might help some people out there, it is in no way worth the $30.

I'm not pretending to be an expert in custody mediation, but after reading dozens of shoddily researched books it was a pleasure to stumble upon "Child Custody Evaluation" by two of the eminent practioners of this very specialized field. Thanks to the authors for helping a neophyte like me through the maze of complications and presenting it in such a understandable and complete fashion. Well done!
