Heartbeat Review

Heartbeat is a verse novel written about a twelve-year-old girl named Annie who loves to run barefoot with her best friend, Max. Max decides that he wants to join the track team, but he needs a pair of running shoes for his meet coming up. Annie secretly gives him some money she has save up saved up so that he can buy his shoes. That's not the only thing going on in Annie's life, her mother is pregnant with Annie's new little brother. Just like the apples that Annie has been assigned to draw every day for one hundred days, everything changes as the days go on. Max becomes a moody teenager, and her mother is ready to have the baby.
Heartbeat is a verse novel that is directed more towards ten to thirteen-year-olds. It is great if you want a quick read and want a little laugh every now and then. Not only that, but it was very comprehendible. I found that the main character's point of view is rather childish. Until the author identified her the main character's age, I would have thought that she was eight or nine. Over all, it was very entertaining.
