About the Author
JOAQUIN GONZALEZ DORAO Experienced traveler since his teen ages, Joaquin combines in his illustrated Travel Journals his passion for travel and his skills as watercolour artist. He changed his camera for a blank notebook and a travel box of watercolours and reflects in its pages the landscapes, peoples, buildings and details of the 5 continents that he has already visited. Probably the toughest handicap in his task is capturing the essence of the countries he visits in a 2D media, where he mixes drawings, wrtings, sticked material, leaf, sand… whatever helps the reader to make a virtual trip through his pages. He likes to travel as light as possible, in a very tight budget, trying to get as close as possible to the ground and the everyday life of his destinations, and enjoying every minute of his relatively short travels, no more than 24 days each. Beautiful watercolour journal

This one's self published in 2013, printed by CreateSpace. Paperback. 62 pages total. About A4 size.
It's a travelogue sketchbook filled with snapshots of Venice in beautiful watercolour sketches. There are the beautiful buildings by water, gondolas, cafes, people and the intricate architecture of the whole place.
I like how he pulls out the little details for more focus, it could be a cup of coffee, statues, hanging lamps, or the fish sold at the markets. There are captions but too brief though. I would love to read more about the place, or even about his adventures while drawing there.
It's a nice addition to the other Venice sketchbooks that I have, namely A Week In Venice by Liz Steel, The Venice Sketchbook by Fabrice Moireau.

Fantastic Book

What a terrific book. The art work is beautiful and it captures the look and the feel of
the city. I hope to find more such travel journals by this artist.
Another thing that is really so great about this book. It's price is $16.00. Not 15.95; not 15.99. It is
$16.00. I wish other publishers would have the guts and the respect for our intelligence to
price their products accordingly.

Fun way to visit Venice

I bought the Venice watercolor travel journal since I have other artists' watercolor journals and enjoy comparing the precise illustrations to the
more relaxed approach in others. In this book, Joaquin Dorao seems to have hit a happy medium. His watercolors are neatly done and the
various sites of an area in Venice are grouped to make an interesting presentation and a fun travelogue.
