Okay but not what I was expecting

I have all the old VHS tapes of the animated Beginner's Bible stories. I had hoped (expected) this to be a re-release of those videos with curriculum to go with them.

The curriculum is on the DVD disk if you put it into the computer. It looks great. I think I can really use this curriculum with my preschoolers. It came with a Beginner's Bible. I already have one, but it's nice to have a fresh copy. That part is all good.

But the videos... Oh I'm so disappointed! They are not the animated stories from before. Instead they are pictures from the Beginner's Bible that sort of move (you know, they wiggle or slide across the screen but not animated) with the voice of someone reading the text. I can tell they are not going to hold the interest of many preschoolers.

I will not be using the videos. I'd rather just read the stories myself and put expression into the stories that way.

Somebody please re-release the old animated stories on DVD!

New version not as good as the old version

My sister had an older version of this when she was young and my mom recommended it for my son. Comparing the two, they redid the whole book at some point. At first it seems basically the same, just different wording and similar but new pictures. However, after going through it with her, implications in the wording, although subtle, seems less biblical. After several examples, and seeing how the new version wording gives different implications, we agreed to just use my sisters old version for him. Im disappointed they changed it. Also, not worth the cost, which is much more than I would expect.

The movies are short clips, not like the VHS tapes. Not what I expected. Cheesy animation.

An excellent case study of the Tiger Ausf. B.

This is THE book about the German Tiger II tank.
Thomas Jentz outdid himself in researching every bit of detailed technical information about this historical vehicle. Included in this book are many never-before-seen internal and external photographs of both the prototypes and production vehicles. There are also pages of detailed technical drawings of the Tiger II tank at different stages of it's development and the war.
Although detailed and loaded with technical information, this book has absolutely nothing about the combat and operational history of the Tiger II. There are no explanations about why the various modifications were made and makes it really hard to casually read the book.
In general, this is a technical manual about the Tiger II tank aimed at technical history buffs and modellers. It is a great supplement to Thomas Jentz's other book about the operational history of the Tiger tanks. But for the technical drawings, photographs and descriptions alone, this book is cannot be matched and is worth every penny of it's price.

Fine Mid-Level Commentary

This is the author's second commentary in the last decade on 1 Corinthians, the first being 1100 pages longer! If you want and have time to work through a masterful commentary (and likely the new standard for scholars), the longer NIGCT is the one to go with. If on the other hand 300+ pages is enough for you (and it should be for most, as well-presented as it is here), then this "shorter" treatment should suffice. More pastoral in its application than the larger volume.

Quality on Every Single Page. Unique, Valuable.

I'm a professor/musician at an evangelical university. I've read his 1400 page commentary (yes! even though I don't know Greek) as well as this shorter, yet distinctive version of around 250 pages. Both are unique, different. Both represent a tremendous effort.

I've spent many, many hours with Thiselton. My understanding has grown immeasurably, thanks to this dedicated, gifted evangelical scholar. I feel that I've gotten to know him. He's exceptionally good with language, and in communicating the finest distinctions of meaning, as well as the important broader themes and emphases in I Cor.

It interesting that quotation marks (" ) do not occur in the original Greek. However, in I Cor ch 8 (and other places) Thiselton's use of quotation marks results in insightful interpretations. I note that the ESV version (and the more recent translations) now employ the same technique.

About 6-8 of us guys have been having a home bible study together for 18 years, meeting every 2nd and 4th tuesday. We study one chapter of the bible per meeting, and we're continuing with chapter 8 of I Cor in two weeks. I put up Thiselton's unique translation on my TV screen (via my MAC) for us all to consider (one of my contributions). The guys really appreciate the perspective the translation offers. A lot of animated, lively discussion ensues. Thank you Anthony! You're efforts are reaching a bunch of guys in California.

Fantastic balance of scholarly research with real life application

This commentary is one of the best I've seen on any book of the Bible. Thistleton gives great background to unpack the context of the Corinthian church. Makes the text come alive. Probably the best part of his approach in this commentary is the follow up questions at the end of each section.
I found myself reading these questions first then going back to do the reading/research. I'd highly recommend this commentary to anyone who is planning on teaching/studying this letter from Paul any time soon.
