ABOUT THE MYSTERY WRITER . . . Jack Pachuta is a mysterious guy. Since a dark and stormy night in 1982, he has authored and facilitated murder mystery events for clients across the United States and Canada. Plus, he sells his complete murder mystery party kits around the world via his websites. In his alter-ego as a speaker, trainer and consultant, he partners his mysteries with unique learning experiences that focus on team building, communications, negotiations and sales. These mystery seminars convey key skills in non-threatening, fun-filled programs. Holding masters degrees from the University of Southern California and Michigan State University, Jack's client base includes Jockey International, Pepsico, ShopKo Stores, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Management Development in Singapore, Thomson Audio Products Hong Kong, Connex of Romania, Multi-Finance of Athens, Greece - and many, many more. An inveterate games player, Jack enjoys the challenge of solving puzzles and weaving together facts and details into memorable, entertaining experiences. He regularly conducts mystery writing boot camps during which he shares his unique insights about developing and facilitating murder mystery parties. Jack met his English wife, Renira, over breakfast in Portugal while they were both living in Germany. About the Author
James M. McPherson is George Henry Davis ’86 Professor of American History at Princeton University where he has taught since 1962. He received his BA from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1958 and his PhD from The Johns Hopkins University in 1963. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, and a Scaver Institute Fellow at the Henry E. Huntington Library in San Marino, California. In 1999, McPherson received the Public Humanities Award of the New Jersey Council of the Humanities. A leading Civil War historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author, McPherson has written many books including most recently, What They Fought For, 1861-1865 (1994), Drawn with the Sword: Reflections on the American Civil War (1996), For Cause and Comrades: Why Men Fought in the Civil War (1997), and Is Blood Thicker Than Water? Crises of Modern Nationalism (1998).

Civil War History

This Book my Mcpherson Is a great introductory book into the United States History From Civil War to Reconstruction. It reads like a novel, making History a fun adventure rather than a dull lecture. It provides immense details for both the casual reader and the Historian. If you'd like to know more about the History of America, the Union and Confederate forces, the influence the time period and war had on slavery this book is great.

The authority on the Civil War

It rarely gets more concise than this, enumerating the myriad of reasons the Civil War happened, while also making sure to point out that slavery was the biggest reason. The only issue I had with the book was that several people are given their full name only once and you're stuck with their last name for the rest of the book, which is problematic when you're trying to take notes.

I would also have appreciated more in depth coverage on the process by which the confederates decided on what to change in their "new" constitution.

Very readable resource of scientific evidence and reasonin

Dr. Walter T. Brown, a retired MIT Prof, retired full Colonel from the Air Force, has written a book that is one of the best compilations of scientific evidences and reasonings regarding the origins question.
One of the books great features is that it is about 30% quotes from well known and regarded scientists and publications. Another great feature is the surprisingly simple and logical explanations of current geophysical attributes that haven't been solidly explained by any current threories.
Dr. Brown plainly outlines how that from a scienific point of view organic macroevolution lacks necessary physical evidence. Even more seriously, it lacks any concrete plausible mechanisms, as many of the people quoted in his book readily say.
This book will give any open reader more than adequate material to really think about. To the closed reader, the sources quoted would be almost heroes, so he/she would really have a hard time arguing. I would especially encourage all opponents to an extranatural origin model to read this book. I would also highly engcourage any seeking student to read this to find out what science really knows, or professes to know. This book has had a tremendous impact on my life, especially my thought process and the way I view earth. This book will definitely make you think and possibly question what you believe and know, or think you know..

Grade 1-3 Based on a true story of an 1856 storm off the coast of Maine, Abbie's tale is one of endurance and bravery. When her father, the lighthouse keeper, sails off for supplies, he leaves Abbie in charge of lighting the oil lamps in the twin towers of their lighthouse and making sure that they don't go out. When a huge storm hits, preventing her father from returning for four weeks, Abbie keeps those lamps burning, getting up several times each night to climb the towers to check them, scraping ice from the windows so the lights can be seen at sea. In the course of the storm, she also rescues her chickens from a huge wave, thus saving the family's only source of food. The Roops allow the natural drama of Abbie's story to emerge in simple sentences that are sometimes cut up awkwardly, but for the most part they are clear and compelling. An author's note gives the interesting historical basis of the story, but the tale stands alone as an exciting account of a young girl's courage. The vivid watercolor paintings are highly effective in detailing Abbie's job as well as creating atmosphere. All in all, one of the best historical beginning-to-readsa refreshing cold blast of salty real life.
